Zinacantán, Chiapas

Pascuala represents a 15-women collective of weavers known as SNEIL, located in the tiny village of Zinacantán in the state of Chiapas, who create beautiful textiles using the traditional method of backstrap weaving. This is a warp-faced style of weaving that uses a “strap” wrapped around the waist to create the tension used to weave while the weaver is in a sitting position. Pascuala and the SNEIL collective use the back strap method to create blouses, dresses, napkins, and table runners.
