Barro negro pottery (black clay) is a style of pottery from Oaxaca, Mexico. This form of pottery can trace it’s origins back about 2,500 years. Distinguished by its color, sheen, and unique designs, this distinct pottery form is produced at the Instituto para el Formento y la Protección de las Artesanias in Teopisca Chiapas Mexico. These Barro Negro pieces are fired in a traditional wood-fired oven and range from jewelry boxes, water pitchers to jars of different sizes and perforated vases and figures.
