Tepatlaxco de Hidalgo, Puebla

Artemali Ocoxal is a community-based enterprise founded in 2009 by Indigenous women from Tepatlaxco de Hidalgo, Puebla. They use ancestral techniques to transform dry pine needles—known as ocoxal in the Nahuatl language—into unique and functional handcrafted pieces. Their catalog includes products for the home, office, decoration, and personal accessories, such as tortilla warmers, baskets, necklaces, and earrings. In addition to preserving cultural traditions, Artemali Ocoxal promotes the sustainable use of non-timber forest resources and offers training focused on environmental stewardship.

The crafted pieces are divided into 4 production lines: home, office, decorative and accessories.

• Home: Tortilla warmers, bread baskets, fruit bowls, plate holders, placemats, coasters, napkin holders, oven dish holders, sugar bowls, vinegar holders, and multi-purpose baskets.
• Office: Laptop stands, cellphone holders, sticky note holders, magazine racks, trash cans, umbrella holders, business card holders, multi-purpose bins.
• Decorative: Mirrors, candy dishes, liquor decanters, vases, centerpieces, wine racks, picture frames, multi-purpose mats, baskets, multi-purpose containers.
• Accessories: Earrings, bracelets, bangles, necklaces, rings, belts, brooches, hats, bags, etc.
