Dances connect us to our ancestors, community, and traditions while honoring gifts from our Creator. They ensure that life continues and connections to the past and future are reinforced.
Kyan Asdebi Odi:wokkwinne, in translation we are the Water Strider Dance Group from the Pueblo of Zuni. Our dance group consists of youth as young as six. We formed this dance group to encourage our children to dance and carry on our traditions and culture. In our migration story, it is said, “The water strider spread out its legs as far as he could and where his heart rested is where our home will be.” In one way or another we are all connected to this place and this is where our water strider’s heart resides.
