San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca

Clara Garcia is a member of the DAVA project in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. Clara and the collective use handmade textiles and naturally tanned leather to create beautiful handmade sandals, sneakers, and boots. The fabrics are woven with “backstrap” or pedal looms, using local cotton or organic wool. All the embroidery and wool dying is done by hand. The leather is tanned using leaves and tree bark, which avoids water pollution.
