Alejandro Vera from the state of Oaxaca, México,  creates masks from Ahuehuete wood (Montezuma cypress) a traditional material used in Oaxaca. The masks commonly depict Europeans, Afro-Mexicans, old men and women, animals, and the fantastic or the supernatural, especially demons or the devil. Angels and saints are also a common theme in ahuehuete-carved masks.
