The art of working with copper predates Spanish colonization. When the Spanish arrived at Lake Pátzcuaro, they found a community where the native people were involved in creating beautiful and useful objects out of hammered copper, communities such as Santa Clara de Cobre, Michoacán, where Juan Manuel continues this tradition of hand-hammered copper works, creating pieces that are not only decorative but beautiful and functional.
