José Escudero García creates beautifully carved boxes from the linaloe tree, which grows in Guerrero, Mexico. This aromatic tree is known for its naturally oily wood and distinctive veined or marbled texture. After carving, each item is finished with a dolomite-based lacquer, a mineral abundantly found in the region. The strength of the aroma and the brilliance of the lacquer determine the final value of each piece, making every box not only functional but also a highly prized work of art.

José and his family craft a wide variety of items, including tea boxes, cigar cases, trays, miniature gourds, and sewing boxes—each made with precision and care. Their workshop is a multigenerational family business that has dedicated itself to this craft for five generations.
