Friday from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm, free with a $5 suggested donation | Silver City Museum
Come to the Silver City Museum and learn about the metal embossing technique of repujado. Learn to emboss, color and decorate, aluminum to create greeting cards and decorate papier mache boxes.
Repujado arrived in Mexico when the Spanish arrived and colonized the area. It was used by the church to protect the images of their religious icons from candle smoke. Over time it has become a popular craft that has extended from the church and into people’s homes. Mexican and South American artisans have used copper and tin for centuries to produce jewelry and ornamental works.
Adults and children are welcome. Due to the sharpness of the metal, we recommend children ages 8+ attend with adult supervision.
